Sonnet Professional Applications

RFIC

Sonnet Professional is the most accurate and reliable EM analysis tool for RFIC layout verification and RFIC component design. Design centers around the globe trust in Sonnet Professional analysis, to build component libraries and verify RFIC designs.

The Sonnet plug-in for the Cadence Virtuoso suite enables RFICs designer to configure and run the EM analysis from a layout cell, extract accurate electrical models, and create a schematic symbol for Analog Artist and RFDE simulation.

The RFIC layouts that can be analyzed with Sonnet include individual components like inductors, transformers, MIMCAP and MEMS as well as interconnects and passive subcircuits with several components.

Setup of technologies and simulation states is intuitive and fully menu driven. Specialists in the EDA support / methodology group can prepare a shared public technology & simulation setup, and work on a private "snapshot" of the technology files as needed.

Sonnet advantages:

The most accurate and reliable planar EM analysis,
based on 20+ years development

Seamless integration into the Cadence IC workflow

Easy to use for IC designers from within the Virtuoso environment

Results are back annotated to schematic symbols for SPICE (time domain)
and Harmonic Balance (frequency domain) simulators

Easy to support for EDA support / methodology groups

Powerful advanced features for EM specialists

Superior visualization and documention features for simulation models & results

Typical RFIC component parameters can be plotted directly,
as a function of frequency or geometry parameter

On-site support and training by Sonnet product specialists

Scalable solution with local or remote or cluster analysis

Cost effective licensing model

Accurate to full numerical precision, no numerical integration required

Superior accuracy in loss modelling

Very high dynamic range of typ. 100dB or better

Fully calibrated internal and external ports

Perfectly calibrated component ports for embedding active and passive devices

Generated high quality broad band SPICE output

Unique Sonnet technologies like ABS or Conformal Meshing for
reliable analysis results in less time

RF and Microwave Printed Circuit Boards

Sonnet offers superior accuracy and reliability for PCB analysis.

Sonnet Professional is the only EM solver where components are embedded into the analysis with perfectly calibrated component ports. No other EM simulator offers this level of accuracy for layout analysis with embedded active and passive components.

Sonnet can be used stand-alone, or integrated into the popular design frameworks Agilent ADS, AWR Microwave Office, Eagleware Genesys and others.

Sonnet advantages:

The most accurate and reliable planar EM analysis,
based on 20+ years development

Unique perfectly calibrated component ports, for first time right designs with active and passive components on a PCB

The closed box approach used by Sonnet allows to predict coupling and resonance effects of the packaged PCB. Counted measures can be studied easily.

Use stand-alone or with seamless integration into Agilent ADS, AWR Microwave Office, Eagleware Genesys and other design frameworks

Import and export PCB layouts in DXF, GDSII and Gerber file format

Accurate to full numerical precision, no numerical integration required

Very high dynamic range for verification of isolation and crosstalk

Fully calibrated internal, external and components ports

Arbitrary port definitions, including single ended, differential even and odd mode, grounded coplanar, floating coplanar and others, with full port calibration

Unique Sonnet technologies like ABS or Conformal Meshing for
reliable analysis results in less time (narrowband filters with typ. 5...8 em simulated data points)

Intuitive definition of geometry parameters & optimization

Export parameterized results in MDIF file format to ADS, MWO and other circuit simulators

Extract Pi equivalent circuit models and RLCG line parameters

Extract high quality broad band SPICE models for use in PSPICE, Spectre and other time domain simulators
